Dr. Omar Al-Mukhtar is Australian-trained cardiologist based in Melbourne who specialises in general, interventional, and structural heart diseases.
Dr. Al-Mukhtar worked and trained in various high-profile hospitals in Victoria and obtained the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) fellowship in cardiology in 2020. To further sub-specialise in interventional and structural heart interventions, he undertook three clinical fellowships at Western Health (2021), Monash Heart (2022), and the Victorian Heart Hospital (2023).
Omar is also interested in clinical research and clinical trials for new therapies and technologies in the area of cardiovascular medicine. He completed a master’s degree in clinical trials research from the University of Sydney in 2022 and participated in recruitment for many international clinical trials. He also published research articles in peer-reviewed international journals and is involved with the education of junior doctors in the field of cardiology. In 2018, Omar launched the BPT Cardiology course which is one of Australia’s few privately managed cardiology-focused physician education courses.
He is available to provide consultations on patients with a wide variety of clinical concerns, including chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, cardiovascular risk assessment, hypertension, lipid disorders, and valvular/structural heart disease.
Since 2018, Dr. Al-Mukhtar has performed thousands of cardiac procedures, and he currently performs procedures at Epworth Richmond Hospital, Victorian Heart Hospital, Northern Private Hospital, Footscray Hospital, and Sunshine Hospital.
